May is here! It’s that magical time when spring and summer collide. To kick off May’s festivities we’re hosting a Cinco de Mayo Pre-Party with J. Landa Jewelry. You can sip and shop at our new Tanglewood location from 10 a.m. until 6 p.m. on Thursday, May 2nd!
Without a doubt Cinco de Mayo, a.k.a. Cinco de Drinko, is one of the most fun holidays of the year. It encompasses all the things I love about celebrations: music, dancing, tacos, and margaritas! If you’re venturing out this Cinco de Mayo, Armando’s is a must! I love the Mexican Martini’s. Another go-to destination for Tex-Mex is an H-Town staple, Ninfa’s on Navigation. Anytime I can support a local business I will, especially when the food is this incredible. They are the inventor of the of the fajita after all.
Because this holiday is such fun, I like to go all out with décor. To make your fiesta just a little more fabulosa, decorate with colorful cacti or petite piñatas as table accents. They go perfectly with balloons, streamers, and paper flowers in every color of the rainbow. If you’re throwing an adult-only Cinco de Mayo party, I suggest filling a piñata with plastic mini bottles of liquor and Mexican candy. Friendly suggestion: do not allow your guests to drink (too much) before they start swinging and always setup your piñata outside. And of course, the most important part of any Cinco de Mayo celebration are the margaritas! Here’s the mixology behind my magnificent margarita. This recipe serves 2.
Kim's Magnificent Margarita
Ingredients
- 4 ounces tequila (For tequila I like to use Herradura Silver but any Blanco tequila will do!)
- 2 ounces fresh lime juice
-
1 ounce fresh orange juice
-
1 Tablespoon agave syrup (use to taste)
- 1 cucumber, sliced into thick coins
-
1 small jalapeño, thinly sliced
- Optional garnishes: extra thinly-sliced cucumber rounds, extra jalapeno slices, and/or lime wedges
Directions
If you prefer your margarita extra cold, get a fun shaker to really chill out! We have these fantastic maraca shakers that really turn up the party!
Since we are talking margaritas, the CAMP Craft Cocktail Kit offers a truly unique margarita experience and makes the perfect Cinco de Mayo host gift! The kit uses Pineapple, Lime, Jalapeño, and a Citrus Infused non-GMO vegan cane sugar. All you have to do is add 12 ounces of alcohol and refrigerate for three days while the ingredients infuse. Make sure to shake vigorously before serving and you can just sip as is!
¡Salúd Houston!
